The base S23 is basically an iPhone 14 Pro. iPhone has better battery and cameras, Samsung has better GPU, CPU, more RAM, and better display. The fact they exchange blows, yet the S23 is $200 less is quite remarkable. (If you game or want plentiful generic performance, choose S23. If you photo/edit/render, get 14 Pro)
It also should've been $100-$50 less, as the 13 Pro Max is available from select retailers and ecommerce for a very similar price. 799-849 is way more applicable for practically a reduced iPhone 13 Pro Max. I think with all of those, the 14 Plus could've been a great choice.
Last year there seemed to be a fairly large gap between the Pro and Pro Max in camera features, and the battery life in the 12 Pro supposedly wasn't great. So I went with the 12 Pro Max. The 13 Pro is at least rated for more battery life than the regular 13 and last year's 12 Pro Max, and there seems to be equal feature between the two top end
The interface and transitions feel smoother and faster, probably due to the 6GB ram and faster refresh rate. Also, the screen is also bigger than the ten, therefore it's good for media consumption. The dynamic island is a multitasker's dream. Went from a standard iPhone 12 to a 14 Pro.

But everything else was a minor upgrade, or in one case (battery life), even a slight downgrade. When the 12 Pro Max was new, I was getting over 34-36 hours easy between charges with average screen time. Now that's closer to 28-30 with the 14 Pro Max, but definitely not a deal breaker. In my book, anything over a day is still good.

The 13 Pro Max has a notable difference in battery life, the 13 Pro is good, but the 13 Pro Max is the way to go if you want the best battery life on an iPhone. 13 Pro is a solid phone; I love the size, but there are times where I wish I had the extra screen space of the 13 Pro Max, or that insane battery life.

It will be better in every way compared to an XS Max and has better battery life than almost any phone on the market. The 13 PM is obviously better, but it is bulkier. The 13 PM is 1st on this list, the 13 Pro is 6th (3rd for phones with high refresh displays) the XS Max is 36th, not far ahead of the 12 Mini. I'm between the 13 Pro and the 13 Pro Max (although I'm more inclined to the latter one due to battery life and screen size, especially considering I'll have it for a minimum of two years). I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S20+, and the size is very similar to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, although I'm not sure about the weight. .
